GERICS Colloquium November 24

Adaptation in the multilateral climate architecture of the Convention

Lecturer: Maria del Pilar Bueno - Member of UNFCCC adaptation committee/ National Council of Scientific and Technical Research (Argentina)

Abstract:

Adaptation has had a long journey in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change characterized by the tensions between developed and developing countries to achieve political parity with mitigation in light of the knowledge provided by science, in particular by the IPCC, about the incresing impacts.

The Paris Agreement is a strong step in this direction. However, the negotiation process of the Rule Book has shown the traditional struggles associated with the debate on resources and other means of implementation. The presentation will give a brief account of the historical characteristics, and it will be focused on the changes provided in the Agreement and the current political picture including the key actors and agendas.
