General agreement between GERICS and SASSCAL
Joint programs, projects and other activities with the Southern African Science Service Center for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL)

HZG/GERICS and SASSCAL established a formal link between both institutions to provide a framework for the performance of joint programs, projects and other joint activities in the field of climate science, climate service provision, knowledge transfer and capacity building.
The joint activities will be developed in the fields of climate sciences, provision of climate services, knowledge transfer and capacity building. This cooperation includes, amongst others, efforts to train mainly young scientists and to develop climate service products in order to support the countries of southern Africa in their efforts to adapt to climate change.
On Wednesday, 20 March 2019, Dr. Jane M. Olwoch, Executive Director of SASSCAL signed the general agreement in the presence of GERICS director Prof. Daniela Jacob at the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) (Photo). The contract period is 5 years and is automatically extended by another year if the agreement is not terminated.
The Southern African Science Service Center for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL) (www.sasscal.org) is a BMBF-funded science center for climate change and adaptive land use in Southern Africa involving the countries of Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, South Africa and Germany.
