GERICS advises municipal decision-makers and policy makers from Taiwan
As part of a journey to Germany including the visit and after having attended the conference ICLEI Resilient Cities 2019“ in Bonn a eleven-person delegation from Taiwan visited GERICS on 1 July 2019. Headed by Prof. Dr. Chung-Shin Yuen, General Director of the Environmental Protection Bureau of the City of Kaohsiung, representatives from the fields of environmental protection, infrastructure, sustainable development and climate adaptation travelled were informed about customized training courses on climate adaptation and other climate services offered by GERICS.
As early as August 2018 a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between GERICS and the National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR) from Taiwan to support Taiwan’s adaptation strategy.

The guests from Taiwan were also GERICS’ guests of honour at the two-day scientific symposium on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of GERICS which was organized on1-2 July 2019. In a welcoming address Prof. Dr. Chung-Shin Yuen thanked GERICS head Prof. Dr. Daniela Jacob in the name of the city of Kaohsiung for the cooperation so far and congratulated Daniela Jacob on the tenth anniversary of GERICS. He conveyed the best wishes for a successful future and expressed his hope that the successful co-operation will continue in the future, especially regarding the co-development of joint climate service products for the support of Kaohsiung‘s efforts relating to climate change adaptation.
