Joni-Pekka Pietikäinen is a scientific staff member of the Climate Service Infrastructure department at the Climate Service Center Germany. He studied physics in Kuopio, Finland, and worked in the regional climate modelling group at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg between 2008-2011. After his time in Hamburg, he continued his research at the Finnish Meteorological Institute in Helsinki and got his PhD in 2015 from the University of Eastern Finland (Kuopio). In his thesis Joni-Pekka investigated the aerosol-atmosphere interactions on global and regional scales. After his PhD, Joni-Pekka worked at the Finnish Meteorological Institute as a senior research scientist and since January 2018 as a group leader focusing on seasonal and climate applications.

Joni-Pekka started at the Climate Service Center Germany 1st of July 2019 and works currently on the model development of the regional model REMO. His scientific interests are on the model physics, especially on aerosols and lakes. In addition, he is interested in the development of the dynamical part of the model and overall in the technical model development.
