Dirk Neumann has been at GERICS since March 2022.
As Administrative Coordinator of Topic 4 "Coastal Zones in a Time of Global Change" in the programme "Changing Earth - Sustaining our Future" of the Research Field Earth&Environment of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres, he coordinates and networks the activities of the researchers of the three centres involved in the topic in order to keep the programmatic goals in focus in consultation with the senior scientists of Hereon in the Program Board.

He is also the administrative coordinator of the Helmholtz Institute for Climate Service Science (HICSS).

Dirk Neumann graduated from the Free University of Berlin in 2002 with a degree in political science, then taught prisoners in the Berlin-Moabit correctional facility, and was for almost 9 years the organizational office manager of Steffi Lemke, Secretary General the German Green Party (BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN).

In March 2014, he moved from Berlin to Hamburg to finally become assistant to Burkard Baschek, Head of the Institute for Operational Systems, later the Institute for Ocean Dynamics at the Helmholtz Centre Geesthacht, in November.
