GERICS was represented at the COP24 in Katowice, Poland, at various side events.
On Tuesday, December 4, 2018, in the event "Understanding SR1.5 - Chapter 3: Implications," Daniela Jacob presented the key findings of Chapter 3 of the IPCC Special Report on 1.5°C Global Warming.
On the same day, the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) and the German Research Foundation (DFG) hosted the side event "From science to policy: Achieving the SDGs in a 1.5 degree warm world" at which Daniela Jacob gave a lecture on "Climate impacts and reduced risks of 1.5°C of specific regions" and also participated in the panel discussion. She emphasized that it is still possible to limit global warming to 1.5°C. To make this possible, however, political will is of crucial importance.

Daniela Jacob was guest speaker on Wednesday, 5 December, at the side event "Emerging science on global warming of 1.5 ° C and the science policy interface" hosted by UK MetOffice and the BMBF.
On the same day, at the IPCC side event "Regional perspectives on 1.5ºC - Central and South America", Tania Guillén presented the key findings of the SR1.5 for South America: "What are the impacts of the 1.5ºC global warming in the Latin American region?"
On Thursday, December 6, Daniela Jacob and María Máñez spoke at a side event on "Multi-Stakeholders' Adaptation Action to Respond to Climate Vulnerability", where it was stressed that ambitious climate action requires the involvement of different actors at different levels of government.
Tania Guillén attended the IPCC side event "Partnering with the IPCC - Early Career Scientist" on Friday, March 7, where she shared her experiences of working with the IPCC with other Chapter Scientists of the IPCC Special Report.
María Máñez and Tania Guillén also participated in the NAP Techical Group's technical working group on Saturday, December 8, to assist countries in developing and implementing their national adaptation plans.
GERICS will continue to support the NAP Technical Group and help shape activities at the next NAP EXPO in Korea.
