HAPPI-DE – Climate and climate impact projections at 1.5 ° C versus 2 ° C warming as part of the HAPPI initiative
HAPPI-DE is funded by the German research ministry (BMBF) to support the knowledge base for climate impacts under 1.5°C global warming. It is the German contribution to the international HAPPI (Half a degree Additional warming, Prognosis and Projected Impacts) initiative that focuses on the difference in climate impacts under 1.5°C and 2°C global warming relative to pre-industrial times.
Within HAPPI-DE global and regional climate simulations will be conducted that feed into climate impact studies for the water and agriculture sector in the framework of the Inter‐Sectoral Impact Model Integration and Intercomparison Projects (ISIMIP). The analysis within the first phase of HAPPI-DE aims to meet the timeline of the IPCC special report on 1.5°C global warming (SR1.5). In a second phase, the results of HAPPI will be summarized and presented as a written report (in German) close to the presentation of the SR1.5.
GERICS will be involved in the downscaling of the selected global HAPPI simulations for Europe and Africa. The focus of the analysis will be on climate extremes and their robustness.
