On 12 September 2024, a delegation from the People's Republic of China visited the Climate Service Center Germany (GERICS) as part of the "2024 Study Tour on Climate Adaptation in Europe". Previously, there were thematically relevant stops at the BMUV, Bundestag, UBA, Climate Analytics gGmbH and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), among others.
Organised by the German government's International Climate Initiative (IKI) "Sino-German Cooperation on Climate Change - NDC Implementation", this study tour aims to strengthen the knowledge of climate adaptation among key decision-makers in China at national and sub-national level so that they can apply and implement it in their subsequent work in China. This is to be achieved in particular through a personal exchange of best practices on climate adaptation in the EU, Germany and the PR of China.
The Chinese delegation visiting GERICS was made up of participants from the Beijing-based National Centre for Climate Change Strategy & International Cooperation (NCSC), the provinces of Guangxi, Shaanxi, Sichuan and Yunnan, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and a translator.
Dr Peer Seipold, Dr Louis Celliers and Janna-Malin Gehrke presented the broad and innovative range of topics covered by GERICS to the participants in various presentations. This was followed by a lively and enthusiastic discussion and Q&A session between the participants and the GERICS representatives, which was rounded off by the professional internal organisation of the event by Maria Wolff. A final joint photo concluded the visit to GERICS before the group left for their visit to the Global Centre on Adaptation (GCA) in Rotterdam.
