Susanne Schuck-Zöller (M.A.) facilitates the scientific network of GERICS. In 2017 she edited together with Guy Brasseur and Daniela Jacob a national assessment on climate change in Germany (Klimawandel in Deutschland, Springer/Spektrum), that was downloaded as E-Book nearly 3 Mio. times. The book (open access and in German language) compiled for the first time the available information on the status of climate change, its impacts on the societal sectors in Germany, as well as the respective risks and adaptation options. Meanwhile, the assessment was updated completely and considerably expanded. The new edition has been published end of 2023 and inheres five new chapters related to reduction of emissions. More than 160 authors contributed. The reviews were twofold: by scientists on the one hand and practitioners on the other.

A special focus of Susanne’s work: the mode of transdisciplinary research and its impact. How can transdisciplinary research be successfully realised and evaluated adequately? Referring to this she organized a multidisciplinary workshop in 2014 in terms of stakeholder dialogues. As well, she initiated a GERICS Report (No. 23), analysing different approaches of transdisciplinary research, developed ten quality criteria of good transdisciplinary processes and took a closer look on evaluation criteria and methods. As part of a working group within the Helmholtz research programme PACES II Susanne worked on a comprehensive framework for the evaluation of products and results (outputs and outcomes) of climate and coastal services. The project NorQuATrans (Normativity, Objectivity and Quality Assurance of Transdisciplinary Processes) lead to a new focus on formative evaluation. Criteria, indicators and methods were developed to shape the regular reflexivity processes in the course of transdisciplinary projects.
