Before joining GERICS, Eric obtained a Bachelor's degree in Meteorology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure and a Master's degree in Environmental Physics from the University of Bremen, then he worked on the comparison of the different phases of the PlioMIP (1 & 2), at the Alfred Wegener Institute, Bremerhaven.
Afterwards, Eric proceeded to the University of Bern where he earned a Ph.D. in Climate Sciences, within the EU-funded Paleo-RA project. His Ph.D thesis involves the reconstruction of global sea surface temperature and sea ice on a monthly timescale. This reconstruction forms the all important lower boundary conditions and contributed to the production of the Modern-Era ReAnalyses (ModE-RA). Eric also worked as an Early Postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bern, where he tested particle filtering data assimilation approach in reconstructing extreme events, using pseudo-observation experiments.
At the GERICS, Eric will work on the EU-funded project FOCAL. The aim is to bridge the gap between Climate modeling data, services and stakeholder decision-making at the local level.
